The Diocese of Bordeaux calls for Catholics to donate money for Muslims
Daniel Ambry, delegate for relations with Muslims of the Bordeaux Archdiocese, called on Catholics to make donations to the Muslim aid fund. He explained that as a result of the COVID-19 epidemic, many Muslim immigrants - including those staying illegally in France - found themselves in a very difficult situation. Thanks to funds provided by Catholics, imams will be able to hand them food during Ramadan.
Daniel Ambry explains that until now, mosques located in the region invited poor Muslims, students and illegal immigrants for a free meal to be eaten after sunset. That will not be possible this year due to restrictions imposed because of the pandemic.
Given the situation, the Solidarité Nord Sud Association (operating in the field of intercultural and interreligious dialogue) has appealed to French Catholics for solidarity and financial contributions. Support for this project is to be an expression of “brotherly” cooperation, a factor conducive to “mutual understanding” and “the promise of peace in everyday life.”
Metropolitan Jean-Paul James supported the appeal, and a letter calling on the faithful to be generous appeared on the official website of the archdiocese.
In 2017, on Daniel Ambry’s initiative, Hassan Belmajdoub, a radical imam, visited Salafists regularly in one of the diocesan churches. The meeting was entitled, “Meeting with others with full honesty”.
