St. John Paul II Cultural Institute will be inaugurated on the 18th of May

On the 100th anniversary of the birth of Pope John Paul II on the 18th of May, the inauguration of the Institute of Culture of St. John Paul II will take place at the Faculty of Philosophy of the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas in Rome (Angelicum). It will conduct didactic classes and interdisciplinary research on key problems of the modern world seen from the perspective of the Polish Pope's teachings.

The Institute was established at the Faculty of Philosophy of the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas in Rome. The mission of the Institute—financed exclusively from private resources, is a reflection on the most current problems of the modern Church and the world in the light of the thought and teaching of Saint John Paul II.

Outstanding intellectuals from around the world, representing various scientific disciplines, have been invited. A scholarship programme for young scientists will also be launched.

“We believe that together with John Paul II one can and should look not only at the time of his pontificate but also at contemporary and future problems of faith, philosophy, culture, science, politics and social issues,” commented Dr. Dariusz Karłowicz, chairman of the Saint Nicholas Foundation.

The Angelicum, which can be safely called the home university of Karol Wojtyła, is a natural place to create an institution that will be inspired by the saint. That is why the establishment of the Institute at Angelicum will contribute to consolidating his achievements in contemporary Christian thought and culture” said prof. Michał Paluch, rector of the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome.

The location of the Institute of Culture of St. John Paul II at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome is not accidental. The Angelicum is one of the most influential Catholic universities in the world, educating the future leaders of the Church worldwide. The Institute can thus exert a very significant impact on both the way of thinking and the directions of change taking place in the Church. It is at this university that young priest Karol Wojtyła and future Pope refined his intellectual and spiritual formation.

People who want to financially support the working of the Institute of Culture of St. John Paul II will be able to do so via the websites of the Angelicum and the Saint Nicholas Foundation
