Atonement Mass celebrated in a desecrated church in Mexico

On the 19th of April Father Gilberto Suárez, Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Xalapa, presided over a Mass and an act of atonement in the parish of San Pablo that was desecrated a few days before. During the ceremony, broadcast live through social media, Fr. Suárez blessed the altar and the tabernacle.
In the early hours of the morning on the 14th of April, some unidentified persons entered the San Pablo Church through a window. Once inside, they tried to steal and damage the first-degree relic of Saint Rafael Guízar and Valencia, patron of the Bishops of Mexico, defiled some of the temple benches and the cloth of the Virgin Dolorosa.
In his homily on the second Sunday of Easter, Divine Mercy Sunday, the Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Xalapa encouraged the faithful to “not tire of doing good, so that the Lord, when contemplating the good we do may have mercy on us. ”
