President of Argentina wants to legalize abortion

Argentine President Alberto Fernandez announced that he ants to make abortion legal. In Argentina, abortion is currently only possible if the mother's health is at risk or in the case of a pregnancy following rape.
Similar legal regulations apply in almost all Latin America. If the bill is passed by the National Congress, Argentina will become the largest country in the region that legalizes the killing of unborn children. The abortion will be available on request up to the 14th week of pregnancy.
“The state should protect citizens in general, and women in particular. In the 21st century, every society must respect individual choice. Women should freely decide about their bodies,”said the left-wing President who has been in office since December 2019.
A similar project was approved by the Argentine Congress in 2018. The previous President Mauricio Macri, however, was against legalizing abortion. Across Latin America, three countries allow the killing of an unborn child :Cuba, Uruguay and Guyana. In turn, in El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Haiti, abortion is completely prohibited. Other countries in the region only allow abortions if the mother’s health or conception is compromised following rape.
