Christians are still victims of persecution all around the globe

The Pontifical Association to Help the Church in Need published an alarming report showing the scale of Christian persecution in the last years. The report shows that the persecution of Christians remains a key isssue all around the globe, especially in Central and Southeastern Asia.

A recent report published by the Pontifical Association to Help the Church in Need states that the persecution of Christians has intensified worldwide between 2017 and 2019, mainly in Central and Southeastern Asia. In Africa, many Christians are constantly under threat from radical islamist groups. These groups put heavy pressure on the Christian to make them abandon their faith and convert to Islam. 

“Although the situation of Christians in the Middle East, Syria and Iraq has slightly improved, the Christian communities there may no longer be reborn says Father Andrzej Paś from the Polish section of Help for the Church in Need  “Christianity is expelled from its cradle”.

According to him, “Syria, and Damascus should also be protected as a cultural heritage of the world,” he emphasizes. The national Assembly adopted a resolution establishing August 22 as the International Day to commemorate victims of violence on the grounds of religion or confession. The initiator of the document was Poland.
