Christian community hall in Eastern India ransacked by BJP Activists
A Christian community hall in India’s West Bengal state was attacked and ransacked by a mob of radical Hindu nationalists allegedly led by BJP activists. According to local reports, the radicals carried out their attack the day the community hall was being inaugurated by local Christians.
As International Christian Concern reported, December 29, some 800 people from 28 villages had gathered in Uttar Shibrampur village to inaugurate a community hall dedicated to Jesus Christ. According to Pastor Anup Kumar Ghosh, a mob of 20 radical nationalists attacked the inauguration ceremony raising slogans of Jai Shri Ram.
The mob attacked the community hall and participants and allegedly planted triangular saffron flag with “Om” written on them on the community hall.
“Four people, including two children, suffered injuries,” Pastor Ghosh told the media. “Of the 800 people who had gathered for the inauguration, hardly 10 were Christians.”
According to local reports, the radical nationalist attacked because they believed the new community hall would be used to forcefully convert Hindus to Christianity.
Police have arrested three of the men who allegedly participated in the attack. Police have said that these three men are all BJP activists. The alleged leader of the attack, Kanai Lal Das, is the husband of a BJP functionary.
