The family of Indonesian woman Ruth Sitepu, who has been missing since 2016 along with her husband, Pastor Joshua Hilmy, wants justice from the Malaysian government.
The Christian woman’s family has been concerned for her safety, ever since they last heard from her and her husband in November 2016. Her friend also informed them that the couple might have been victims of forced disappearance.
Despite their landlord’s attempt to locate the couple by filing a missing persons report with the police on March 6, 2017, the case remains unsolved, even after repeated inquiries from their family and friends.
Ruth and Joshua’s disappearance, along with Christian pastor Raymond Koh and Shiite activist Amri Che Mat, could all be linked to the same perpetrators. According to Malaysian police’s own statement, all four cases have the same modus operandi. Some believe that they were all kidnapped by the previous government’s special operations team.
While the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) is still in the process of investigating these disappearances, Last week, Ruth’s family met with Amiruddin Al Rahab, a commissioner at the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM), as well as representatives of the Law and Human Rights Ministry in Indonesia, to renew the desperate search for her.
