The Holy See has revealed that Pope Francis will visit the Laurentino cemetery in Rome on the 2nd of November, all souls day. This cemetery has a section where unborn children are buried.

It is expected that the Roman Pontiff will celebrate Mass there at 4:00 pm local time.

The section of the graveyard where unborn children are buried is called “Garden of the Angels.”

According to the website, called “Cimitieri Capitolini” of the municipality of Rome, the Laurentino Cemetery was founded in 2002, and it is the third biggest cemetery of the capital. The “Garden of the Angels” was created in 2012 and occupies 600 square metres of the grounds of the cemetery;  it is overlooked by two statues of angels.

The municipality of Rome highlighted that the name and the symbology of this place are not religious based but rather focuses on the  “association of the image of infancy with the image of angels, as an example of innocence and purity.”

In previous years Pope Francis has celebrated Mass on All Soul’s Day in other cemeteries of Rome, such as the Cemetery Flamino, Americano de Nettuno, and the  Verano.

All Souls Day always falls on the 2nd of November in the Christian liturgical calendar. The Laurentino Cemetery is open from Monday to Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and on Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
